Clip-on Braces: Metal adjuster buckle position

Hello everybody,

I just bought some clip-on braces (I know most of you will consider that as an heresy but I think it's less formal than buttons ones on a 25 years old guy).

There is an old topic where GQ Lawyer says "The proper way to wear braces (and I only post this because I see it done wrong so many times) is that the brass or metal adjuster buckle should sit between your lower chest (wear your chest and sternum meet) and your nipple. No higher, no lower."

But I think he is refering to button braces. Does this rule also apply to clip-on braces? (I though that the Metal adjuster buckles where much lower for a clip-on)

I am taking any rule/piece of advice

metal buckle on a pair of suspender should sit right below the nipple in most people. Ideally at the part where the abdomen transitions into the chest.

But if you wear clip ons, then no "rules" apply. Do whatever you want.

Yes, if you're wearing clip-ons where the adjuster sets is the least of your worries.

Have you considered a belt?

I usually wear the "targeted" suit without belt (I think it looks great without it), I just wanted to try some braces but the buttons ones look way too formal in my point of view (at least for young people).

I'm new to Style Forum and usually only ask for advice. However, I feel compelled to say, please don't wear clip-on braces. It's akin to wearing a clip-on tie. Clip-on braces aren't going to make you look any younger (as compared to button versions), they're just going to make you look bad.

Seriously, don't do it. Your reasoning is suspect anyway. Just have some buttons sewn into your pants and buy proper suspenders.

You are correct and the rule dose apply to both kinds, but I would get some button on ones if I were you, there is nothing wrong with looking a little formal regarless of the age and clip ons just look silly and foolish like a clown of course that is just my personal opinion.

I've worn regular braces with business and business casual wear since graduating college. Clip-on braces aren't more youthful, they're just tacky.
