Cleverley

HOw do cleverley shoes match up to say crocket and jones or edward greens or do they ? i picked up a pair of their whole cuts in black and have gotten some small creases in the vamp i think it is called. the area after the toe box but before the laces, any tips

you must mean RTW cleverley right? Not bespoke?

Cleverley RTW is very good quality -- there have been debates about who makes it. T4phage is the authority here. Likely Crockett & Jones Handgrade with a few Edward Green-made models. Although one Japanese site appeared to suggest the Cleverley models were Grenson Masterpieces. All are extremely good shoes.

Use shoe trees. Good ones. Or your shoes, particularly your wholecuts, will crease like mad.

(1) Avoid using too much polish in that area.
(2) Don't wear them.

, but I have only one pair of RTW Cleverley's, but have more of their bespokes. I think Bengal-Stripe would be the expert. In my own humble opinion I have seen some that look to be C&J handgrade shoes (although on a different last), with the same nailing and rubber heel insert. Others that I have seen look very much like EG in terms of the nailing and rubber insert at the heel (the older EG, not the newer type heel with the nails outlining the rubber insert). Also seen some like the Grensons but without the circular window insert.... Seems as if Cleverley has been using a large number of makers.

What is the price range for Cleverley RTW?

Same ballpark as Edward Green. Some similar models I believe are priced less at Cleverley. Eg. the split toe lace-up is @$100 less at Cleverley than EG, though I understand EG hand sews the toe stitching whereas the Cleverley's are apparently machine stitched. Really? I've never bought Cleverley RTW, but I thought they were significantly less than EG. It's been a long time since I checked the price, however.

brown around 165 pounds and black 190 right now edwards greens are not 250 gbp but more like 300 on sale right now and the whole cuts are not included hence why i went with cleverley's

any way of telling who made them?

i have one pair of cleverly RTW loafers that are now about 10-12 years old. i think i became a customer on one of their first trips to the USA -- i'd been buying shirts from new and lingwood and the cleverly reps indicated they had left n&l when new owners took over.

i like their shoes and always plan on buying more. and i've recommended them to friends who buy when their reps come to the USA.
