I tried on a pair of Cleverley midnight blue velvet slippers today and Im considering buying a pair. They are 150 pound. Is Cleverley a good shoe maker? Ive never heard of them before so I don't know much about their quality. Also is the only appropriate thing to wear a velvet slipper with a tuxedo?

i believe that they have a good report here on style forum. i just know that they look good! and, i think velvet slippers can be worn with a smoking jacket, a robe, etc. i'm not sure that it's appropriate to wear them with a tuxedo, though i'd like to see how it looks.

I just looked at the midnight blue cashmere slippers on the Cleverley website. They look beautiful. I have had a pair for many years (not cashmere) and they still look great.

if they have leather soles, i think they'd work just as well as suede loafers or oxfords. i'm not entirely sure of what would happen to velvet in the elements and i did a quick google search in which nothing came up

Are there any other makers I should look at for a velvet or cashmere slipper? I suppose a cobbler can't refinish a velvet slipper like a leather one right?

the soles look way to thin to wear outside for more then just a short walk.

I am not yet sure. I never thought about the finishing of a slipper being like that of an Oxford, and you should definitely contact the company about this.
