Hi there, thanks for reading.

I'm slowly rebuilding my wardrobe, but due to an imminent event had to acquire hastily a pair of casual brown shoes. I chose a pair of Johnston and Murphy tassel loafers, rather similar to these (but finished just a touch lighter, or perhaps faded):

The event's come and gone, and now I'm just curious whether anyone had any suggestions - or could point me towards some other threads with lots of good ideas - for how to liven the things up a bit with creative choices of color polish, or other treatment.

I've used navy blue polish on my black boots to good effect - but a brown shoe opens so many other options in that regard that I'm not altogether certain what result might be the most appealing to me. Burgundy? Red? Orange? Oxblood? Santa red, brick red, tangerine or terra cotta? Haven't a clue, so I'd love to see some pictures or read some ideas.

Thanks very much.

Interesting idea actually.. I'd be curious to know what people have done with tan, brown, black shoes with creative polishing with different colours

First and last bump; can't blame a guy for trying.

You all use nothing but brown shoe polish/cream on your brown shoes?

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
