How do you effectively clean and remove the wax or cream residue on your shoe cloth ?

Do you hand wash them? And if so, in what solution?

Which cloth? The one for (a) applying cream and polish or the one for (b) shining your shoes?

(a) it should be linen => machine wash hot, hang dry
(b) roughed cotton => machine wash warm, tumble dry

Adding a little soda powder to the wash can help as it is made to make fat water-solvent.

Old cotton socks (I wear through toes at an alarming rate, so always have a supply).
