    Loud Jackets

An approach to tackling the loud jacket using a solid but textured tie. Feel free to highlight other ways of getting good mileage out of these bad boys we often buy on impulse

Matchy Matchy approach (Match the primary or secondary color of the jacket)

    Neutral tie approach

    (pic quality isn't good)

    Fails IMO

Well, there is the famous gdl pic with the green neat and gunclub, but for me, if Im wearing loud checks or windowpanes, I go solid tie exclusively, and generally prefer some nice texture there. But that could be either because I think thats what looks best or because I am a wimp.

I don't see a problem with the color of the tie in the last picture. What about it do you not like?

The loudest jacket I own. I've learned I have to be very, very safe with it for it to work. It doesn't help that it's a light blue. [IMG] [IMG]

SB - I dont either like the color of that tie with that jacket. Ymmv I guess.

Clags - That is one of your best combos ever, and I totally agree about being safe with it when it comes to pairings.

^^ Darker blue ground would definitely give some additional flexibility. I'm mostly thinking aloud here Claghorn, but have you tried a light pink striped shirt and burgundy tie combo with that jacket?

The more I own that jacket, the more I regret paying what I paid for it. They had a jacket made up in the fabric on one of their dummies and I'd admire it every time I walked up the stairs to the second floor. When they told me that they have barely a jackets' worth of the fabric left and that it was on sale (one of the more expensive H&S linens), I sort of jumped on it. And my god, the fabric is just amazing in every aspect....except wearability.

    Would I do it again?

No. No I wouldn't not. I think this is the only truly expensive mistake I've made since joining Styleforum.

    But damn it.

    That fabric.

    -------

Light pink doesn't work with my complexion. But it would be an interesting experiment that I probably wouldn't wear out of the house.

I'm in agreement with kulata's assessment with the exception of #4. I think in a SC with that many colors, picking one of the secondary colors is more or less obligatory, and unless I'm reading the colors wrong, he has a dark blue tie against a jacket with charcoal gray/purple/orange windowpanes.

Clags, when wearing that jacket, do you ever wear a tie that isn't the primary overcheck color of the SC? You're going to think I'm nuts, but an olive/spring green tie has potential there in my head.

I've tried and it didn't look great. Just ends up being really busy. The jacket is almost dark enough that I can wear a light blue shirt, and with that I might try a navy knit. I have some linen trousers that have yet to be worn, gray.

The color is a bit random for the outfit. It doesn't reinforce nor complement anything. Just stands out in a bad way.
