Classic black knit tie and brown shoes?

People tell me the black knit tie is the "blue blazer" of ties, in that it can go with just about anything. One thing though... I pretty much only wear black shoes to interviews and weddings, and even then only night weddings. Is a black knit going to work with various brown shoes? If not, how is it the "blue blazer" of ties? What do you wear it with?

I wear a black knit tie with brown shoes fairly often. Not sure if it's technically "wrong" but I think it looks fine.
