Just ordered a pair of DBs in the taupe from a site called Houser Shoes. No tax in most states, free Fed ground. There's a 20% off coupon TWSAVE20.

Came out to $63. They only have the taupe though. Better than going through ebay.

If your soles melted, you might want to check that assumption!

I got a pair today, is there anything I can do to prolong the life of the sole, like get it coated with a thin layer of rubber at a shoe shop or something? I wouldn't want the crepe sole to wear out before I've got my money's worth.

Once u wear out the sole, and by all accounts it's a decent durable sole, I'd say you got your money's worth.

Isn't it kind of silly to baby a pair of shoes that are:
1) designed to look roughed up (especially so on the already distressed versions),
2) designed to BE roughed up (they were made for men fighting the most massive war in human history),
and 3) are readily replaceable for $70-90 bucks.

I don't mind them looking roughed up, but I paid a premium for mine (109 euros) and heard some vague somethings about the sole being delicate. If that isn't the case, then I don't have any issues.

Found them at nordstrom finally. They must just got them in for winter

got them in black but my legs are getting rubbed up by them being too stiff. How long does it take to loosen and break them on. Omg got blisters from the rubbing up on the side. Didn't wear long socks ouch

Word! I can't imagine those soldiers mincing around trying to keep their bloody boots from getting dirty. Plus DBs just get better looking the more they get worn. They're not meant to be worn as squeaky clean dress shoes. They're casual workwear shoes. They're meant to look broken in, worn to death, and replaced when they're no longer wearable. I too would say that it you've worn the sole all the way down, you've more than gotten your money's worth.

i tend to agree with this statement,

although saying they were used in a brit's war, no offense but they had a really tight budget so they skimped where they could. Although i love my DB's and plan on making them a staple of my everyday shoes

Any ideas how to wear black suede Desert boots casually,

I htought they would be the most versatile but it desnt seem to work well. They look alright though with my black jeans

All the pics I have seen with Black DB all seem to be worn more dressier/business

Or maybe its just because my shoes look so brand new still

I always find black is a tough color for casual shoes. When the shoes get a worn in and faded they might start looking better with casual pants.
