Hi, this is my first post. I'm not a ''dapper'' gentleman but at 33 I've decided to get a simple wardrobe that's suitable for most of my needs - black (naturally fading) chinos, black long sleeve t shirts, simple black jumpers and a faded calfskin jacket. My boots are Charcoal Red Wing Iron Rangers and after buying some smart looking boots from All Saints and having them fall apart within a few weeks, I decided I wanted some more genuine smart/casual boots. Anyway...

I've found myself coveting Crockett and Jones Islay boots in dark brown Scotch grain, but at £460 they are a LOT more expensive than the other boots which are on sale (and I've never spent more than £200 on a pair of boots before). That kind of money is crazy to me but I just really like them.

I have unusually narrow feet so I can't go with Tricker's so easily as they feel a bit wide, which is a shame because I like them and they are £275 on sale at the moment. I have C width feet according to Crockett and Jones, and I generally wear ''normal'' boots but with innersoles to fill them up. Do you know if the Islay ever go on sale, or if they come up often on eBay etc? I'm a UK7.5.

Also, does anyone know when this boot first came out? There's no info about that as far as I can tell...

Doubtless they will occasionally appear on Fleebay although second hand shoes are not good for your feet, (cue, disagreement); That is simply a case of patience and regularly checking the listings. There are other listings and indeed there is one as an adjunct to this Board - 'Buy and Sell' in the title bar.

As to a sale I have no clue but have you investigated whether they have a factory shop where slight seconds are off-loaded? Bargains can be had in such emporia.

You might search this Board for answers to your questions as an alternative.

A quick look at options does tell me that Crocket and Jones seem adept at ensuring orderly marketing, no obvious price competition.

Check out the Crockett and Jones thread which is quite active.

The scotch grain Islays sometimes go on sale but it's not often. Usually it's when a retailer has a blanket 10-20% off.
Often a retailer will have a seasonal version in some other material and those will get marked down at the end of season.

Have you tried them on? The 365 last is fairly generous. Fairly similar to a Tricker's 4497.

I did a naughty thing and just went into the shop and bought them an hour ago. I've also just deleted a post because it warrants a new thread. But to answer in this thread, I'm going to keep these indoors for a while and look around as they have a 3 month return policy. It was a serious impulse that I couldn't resist (I'm 20 minutes from Jermyn Street)
