I knew about the papers, but someone told me they had a really strong blend of cigarettes.

Zig Zag make rolling tobacco, too, but it's hard to find and not worth the effort.

That's it. American Spirits. Don't they smoke those on the Chappelle show?

    Winston's don't have additives either.

Yes. Consequently they are less addictive, as in addition to nicotine, many of the chemicals in commercial cigarettes serve to hook smokers.

Have these chemicals that are added been proven to be addictive? As far as I know, there hasn't been any gov't study (at least) that's made a distinction between the actual tobacco and the additives. And I can't see any gov't organization (or other anti-smoking org) wanting to make that disctinction. Obviously, these chemicals can't be good for you, but American Spirit, for example, when they first started, sent out a mailing that took pains to make clear that their cig. wasn't any healthier or less addictive because they lacked the additives. Maybe they did this for legal reasons.

as i understood it, the chemicals added to cigarettes are not addictive. but they enhance the, should i say, 'addictiveness' of nicotine hence a better smoking pleasure.

Hmmm....I understand that some of the chemicals also, of course, affect taste and others act as burning agents.

I wonder if Gauloises have additives. I picked up a bunch from duty free.

I enjoy an occasional fine cigar [see profile pic], and also an occasional cigarette.

Smoking does not have to be a habit. Indeed it was not always a habit. The post WW1 mass production of cigarettes may probably be marked as when smoking became a habit, along with the accompanying health risk.

I was reading an anthology of writing on smoking. In it, there are complaints from hundreds of years ago (James of England comes to mind) that tobacco was addictive -- though maybe their concept of addiction was different then.

I recall it was called a "noxious weed" and was apparently sinful.

My friends who live in the tobacco states are lucky. The Carolinas have major brands for what? Less than US$2?

I can get a pack of Camels for $0.30 at krogers. My friend types in a little code and makes everything that cheap.
