I like table-top lighters on a heavy agate, jasper or malachite base. Heavy enough for me to ligt it up without so much as moving it. That is what I like.

This is my daily driver, a Ronson Varaflame, medium size: [IMG] It's like having a 1959 Cadillac in your pocket.

Is there still any connection between the Dunhill tobacco and apparel companies? And in which camp do the lighters fall?

I think the tobacco entity is separate though whether or not they are still owned by Richemont, I don't know.

The tobacco division has its own website: http://www.whitespot.co.uk/

I used to buy these nice electric-starting refillable lighters in Europe, very minimalist, refillable, maybe about 8 bucks (can't recall the Euro price). I looked in a head shop here recently, and they didn't have anything like that. Anyone know if they sell those in the States? They represented a nice compromise between a disposable and a true accessory...

I think a matchbook is much sexier than a lighter.

A match does have its days in a dark street with a trench coat collar turned up, but for general usage, it's somewhat inconvenient and inelegant.

The idea of smoking is not elegant in the slightest, so that point to buy something "elegant" to use for the purpose seems moot.
