Church's repair service

Hello,

I have a pair of Church's Blakeny brogues with red brick soles which have worn quite a bit after a few years. My local cobbler does not have a matching red brick sole, unfortunately (their option was a far darker shade of red). I am therefore considering sending them to Church's. Does anyone have any experience with their repair service?

Yes - VERY expensive and not worth the money.

The Church shops in London will quote you £90+ postage...instead of sending them to Northampton (which some will claim) they send them to a very good cobbler in North London.....

Now, if you was to walk into this good cobbler in North London he will only charge you his shop going rate of £35. He also accepts postage service and does a collection service if you're in London and have 10+ pairs to resole.

But what if I sent them directly to their service in Northampton? Is that also a ripoff? I remember the Church's store in Brussels not even being able to procure me a pair of extra laces for my Blakeney's, so not sure I trust that they will use original parts.

Well - I am not surprised....the firm gone down hill ever since Prada set-foot into the Northampton factory...anything to do with quality and craftmanship no longer exist at Church's....asking them to procure something way back will probably receive a reply like: Sorry will only deal with cheap corrected grain and plastic material nowadays...ciao...

I had one of my favourite pairs resoled by Chuch's on Regent Street last year. It was expensive ie £90 but this is around standard price with most Northampton shoe makers.
I put them in around July time and because of the summer/Olympics the factory was closed for a certain period, I didn't get them back until September. Took way too long IMO.
As for the quality of workmanship - it was the first time I'd had any proper resoling done so I'd nothing to compare against. I thought the work was ok - they replaced the channel welted sole but I found that there was a slight gap between the heel section of the upper and the welt.
Would I do it again? Maybe - if it was one of my C&Js, would like to see the comparison in workmanship.

Yawn...how many times have we heard this now? Where's Voxsartoria's pair of Church's from the 80s in CORRECTED GRAIN!!

A good cobbler that practically every one of the shoe producers outsources to...however they left some nasty gouges on a new pair of Edward Green's of mine once when fitting lulus.

same thing happened to me. still koko charge £15 less than foster and son and £25 less than cleverley (i suspect that they both send to koko for this work)

On Saturday I collected a pair of C&J shoes, I gave Kokos for a full resole - great job, channelled soles and no silly waiting times either. C&J had quoted £16 more and a much longer waiting time, if I thought the shoes could require a second full resole I would have sent them to C&J.

I did get a local clobber resole two pair of shoes for £30 each; never again, I learnt my lesson.

Church's sold shoes in correct grain before the Prada take-over (I have a pair)
Many shoes had and have the options of calf or polished binder without an upcharge for the former - people are not forced to stick with corrected grain
Just because a leather is correct grain does not make it crap

A few years ago I was spoking with Church's about making four mto shoes in their Royal Collection and making them without a medallion pattern on all the shoes. Although they had to contact Italy first, they were willing to make the shoes; the only reason I did not order the shoes was because my job role changed and I stopped wearing suits to work on a daily basis.

Koko's completely bodged a resole job on an old pair of Edward Green veldt boots a while ago, and then didn't correct the problem properly when the boots were sent back to be fixed. I'd never recommend anyone to use them.

The Shoe Healer sorted them out eventually with a complete new resole. Problem is, being veldtschoen, they only have a limited number of resoles in them so Koko's shoddy work has shortened the overall life of the boots...

Another cobbler I use when I am in the city is Peter (been around for 40 years) - called City Heelers
along Mansion house.

Full sole £36 and half sole £29.
