I hate them mostly for having that banana shape that betrays a poorly-maintained shoe which has never seen shoe trees.

My appetite for faux-distressed goes this far and no further, and even then I'm hesitant:

Well, I bought those on this colour last month from Barneys NY on 70% off. The quality of the leather is really good [IMG] but I guess it doesn't make any difference.

They do have really bad fit and are not comfortable for walking long distances. The soles are really hard and they do make a lot of noise when you walk.

That said I like them and I do wear them, on weekends. I wouldn't have paid £530 though.

So distressed leathers are bad but intentionally created 'patinas' are great.

    Hypocrites.

EDIT: Its Blake rapid construction is superior to the Goodyear welted EG/JL/G&G...

    Buy a dictionary bud:

    patina \PAT-n-uh; puh-TEEN-uh\ , noun:
    1. The color or incrustation which age gives to works of art; especially, the green rust which covers ancient bronzes, coins, and medals.
    2. The sheen on any surface, produced by age and use.
    3. An appearance or aura produced by habit, practice, or use.

    dis·tressed   [dih-strest] adjective
1.affected with or suffering from distress.
2.(of merchandise or property for sale) damaged, out-of-date, or used.
3.(of real estate) foreclosed and offered for sale.
4.(of furniture) purposely blemished or marred so as to give an antique appearance.

Patina is something that has been well cared for and has aged gracefully. Distressing is something that has been poorly cared for and aged ungracefully.

Just noticed your comment about Blake and realised you were joking.

Which part of the painting process is being "aged gracefully" and which part of the distressing process is "poorly cared for"? Care to explain?

Are you really promoting the merit of Goodyear gemmed shoes constructions?

It looks like they took an old man's golf shoes and painted them with AIDS.
