I’m not sure what the colour is called by Church’s but it’s a deep burgundy. I thought it was Horween colour 8.
Great colour, whatever it is! For me, Church's 173 is perfect for the front half of my foot. Slightly roomy at the back but overall a great fit. I find them quite a bit wider than the Crockett and Jones 325 but the CandJ 341 is bang on for me. Church's have more cushioning in the footbed and the suede at the back to minimize heel slip is a nice touch. I do love Church's and I worry what the future holds with the losses they are making.

Charging 1k for £500 shoes can’t be helping sales/profits.

I also have a wider foot and have found Church’s G to be way too wide for me. I think it’s the wide heel rather than the forefoot that becomes problematic for me in G. F is a very nice fit, granted I only have experience with a few Church’s lasts.
Probably same for me. I didn't feel like swimming in the forefoot, but a looser heel doesn't feel great. I'm sure an F-width would've been a near perfect fit, but then again, the scratch.

I don't think I'll be interested in shell anytime soon, but if I do, it'll be a C&J Pembroke or some hatch grain, something I know I'll love for other reasons than the shell.

No, i get that. But those of us on this forum compare them to other Northampton brands like Crockett and Jones and Trickers. Compared to those brands, Church's are not worth the price. However, there are a lot of people out there that might buy Tom Ford or Balenciaga or many other brands (check out Mr Porter) that are 3 or 4 times the price of Church's. Those consumers are now Church's target group, in my opinion.

@Ypuh I definitely agree you should go for the shoe you like rather than going for shell at all costs. Some whiskey shell Pembrokes would indeed be nice.

Just took delivery of these McFarlanes. Beautiful boots and I love the last, plus only two speed hooks is a bonus. I would certainly prefer an itside commando rather than the San Moritz on these but overall I think they’re keepers.

Beautiful. These belong in the same conversation as the C&J Islay and Tricker's Stow. I didn't even know about them.

Totally agree, I would say on a par with Islay and marginally above Stows. If they had an itside commando sole they’d be spot on.

I have them. I went a bit overboard and got the McEntire and Mcpherson too, so I've got the set!

Very nice @Fenners81. Where'd you get them? Via an online retailer or Vinted or so?

I need to include Church's a bit more in my searches as well. Indeed they look well made, and I'm pretty sure you didn't pay a €1k for these. If there's a great sale (be it new or practically unworn) then Church's are a great catch. I'm assuming that Church's has moved a bit out of scope for many, where as a good deal on C&J's or Tricker's doesn't survive the day.

Buying Church's on sale is the only way I'm buying.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
