I really want some Edward Greene for Ralph Lauren snuff suede boots, but I don't want to pay more than $50.

What can I do?

Anyone have any experience with the Vans Greaserz S? They're perhaps a little less conservative than Chucks, but maintain the aesthetic while looking a bit more durable.

If I were going to go with Converse, I'd probably give the nod to the Purcells. They again keep the aesthetic of Chucks, but look nicer. I've heard some stories about questionable quality for the price, though.

I should chime in on Chucks, too. I like the look, but don't have a pair for a couple reasons. I owned a pair back in high school. I never got comfortable in them and because of my shoe size, people were wondering if I'd just gotten out of a small car full of clowns.

Now that they're all the rage, it seems like every other person has Chucks. I'm one of the few people in my one circle of friends who doesn't own a pair. Again, I like the look, but they're worn by so many people that it can smack of conformity.

They don't go with every outfit, but a pair in white, navy or black is a great buy since you can play with them in many ways. Pair them with a sweater, a cool tee and jeans, or a casual button shirt etc.

My go-to sneakers are Purcells, just love them in white or black leather or Chuck highs in solid colors.
