I got a pair of chuck taylors last year and on one of them the inside heel fabric has ripped off so there is nothing but rubber/plastic there now. It's a little uncomforable rubbing against the back of my heel. Is this common with chuck taylors? Any ideas for repair? Thanks.

hasn't happened to me yet. did you get them soaked or something?

I doubt it would be worth repairing. Just get a new pair?

Didn't soak them, they look brand new, I've probably worn them less then 20 times in the past year.

Duck tape might be uncomfortable. I was thinking maybe athletic tape (the kind you use to tape up injuries).

I might give this a try:

or this:

I just don't want to add alot of thickness too it, as they already fit well.

You can get it at any drug store. You're supposed to put in on your feet, but I've used it for in-shoe padding with good results.

Seconded. This works great and adheres pretty well. One thing you'll want to watch for is that the edges tend to roll a bit and expose the adhesive. But it's easy enough to pull the tatty old patch off and stick a new one down.

I have this problem with almost every shoe, Chucks and others, that have any kind of inner lining. I consider it normal wear and tear, and it can even be part of the breaking-in process that makes a shoe more comfortable. In any case, it seems unavoidable for me, and usually just wearing good-quality socks is enough to keep it from being bothersome. If the wear becomes extensive, I use the moleskin solution mentioned above or in some cases, as with Chucks, just buy new.

that happens to all the JPs and chucks that i own. i consider it very normal as well, but by the time this gets to the rubber only, the shoes are usually in tatters. if there's barely anything left, it's time to buy a new one.

Remove the plastic and put a couple band-aids in its place, or wear thicker socks.

Those are just getting nicely broken in! Mine have no rubber left in the heel at all and have a nice hole starting to wear through at the back.
