Chromexcel and rain?

I'm shopping for some fall boots for wearing about Chicago, and am drawn to various chromexcel boots. Some of the advertising copy claims this stuff can deal with the wet, but I'm wondering how true this is.

I wouldn't be wading through slush and pools of water every day in them, but they would see shallow puddles and rainy days fairly frequently. I'd of course get a rubber sole. Does anyone have experience with this?

For what it's worth, I wore my AE Chromexcel Bayfields in Alaska. Through rain and dirt and snow can't complain.

ditto for me -- not Alaska, but through snow. they look amazing. i'd get the AE aquacare cream though.

Thanks for the pics -- certainly feel more comfortable that they can put up with more abuse than I will ever put them through.

Can you post any closer pics of the leather Harvey? Does the finish look significantly worse for wear after what you've put them through?

I've really abused the hell out of them since I got them a year ago. I've worn them hiking just about every weekend since, including that extended trip in Alaska. In fact I just wore them on an 11 mile hike this morning, and here are pics after I got home and had a beer and cleaned them up.

I condition with Kiwi Leather Conditioner, no polish, and you can see they've taken on a nice dark hue that gives them some character. I've replaced the laces with something a little more substantial.

I'm really impressed with them, both as a great looking boot as well as a great hiking boot.

My Indy's in Chromexcel clean up fine after I wear them in the rain/mud/muck. I just take the mud off with a damp cloth (or a hose, if the boots were dirtier than usual) and use Alden boot cream to condition them.

Yeah, my chromexcel shoes + montana pitch blend have been great in all sorts of weather.
