Well, it seems to be that time of year. Time to struggle to find appropriate gifts for family members in a rather contrived early morning ceremony that I always find awkward at first but then quite enjoyable in the end. I hope I get Lego this year.

I need something for my mother. Let me describe her for you:
-She loves to read her Bible;
-She needs nothing in terms of reading her Bible or loving Jesus or anything like that;
-She gardens a tiny bit, but she has everything she needs on that front;
-She doesn't cook as a hobby nor does she need anything on that front;
-Her main activities include visiting my grandpa in the nursing home, and visiting my aunts (and probably wishing her son would call more often), and reading her Bible;

I am thinking she needs something that would be useful when she is either visiting or reading. Like a nice housecoat or something. Maybe I could find a cashmere housecoat, or cashmere-lined slippers (since my budget is quite low - actually, very low).

Or maybe you have a better idea. Please help as I struggle with this every year and end up getting her something to replace something she already has that doesn't need to be replaced (e.g. last year, driving gloves).

All good recommendations, except the tongue thing, but your hand cream recommendation is a good call.

As for a child, I'm doing my best, but not there yet.

What about a nice silver picture frame for some family Christmas photos?

We add a contribution to Heifer International to our holiday gift budget and enclose a Heifer card with all gifts. Perhaps your mom has a charity she would like to support.
