I am not comfortable with calling people by their Christian names. I also see other people--namely strangers--calling each other by their Christian names as evidence of a decline in standards which I also suggest correlates with the lax sexual standards of today.

I do not mind calling people on the internet by their Christian usernames such as say, "Yves Montand"--and I call them "Yves".

However, the idea that I would call anyone by their Christian names in real-life is particularly unappealing.

It is my preferred way of addressing others. I'm not shocked to find that I don't meet your social standards.

I am just not comfortable addressing others in such a manner. Perhaps, if you are well-acquainted with a person, then it's perfectly acceptable.

I am Jewish so I don't have a Christian name. You may call me Sir, Professor, Your Excellency...

Given name would be the proper terminology. Christian name is actually sort of flawed, as all names which would technically be Christian names (Matthew, John, Adam, etc) are Hebrew names.

Por exemplo:

Matityahu - Mattay - Matthaios - Matthieu - Matthew

Hebrew - Aramaic - Greek - French - English

And as regarding the semantic idea of Christian names, I don't bother changing my word choices because of new-fangled devices.

I have no issues with using Anno Domini or Ibid or Loc cit, and etc. since it suits me quite well.
