I am looking for some solid colored basic socks. I am looking for cheap options (for what I want them for, Gap/BR quality is more than OK) that I can pick up in Chicago.

Something like this:
http://www.joyofsocks.com/Bright_Cot...vn_1126_17.htm
or this:
http://www.joyofsocks.com/Izod_Cotto...iz_3920_17.htm

I would like to pick up a few pairs (light blue, orange, a few other solids depending on what I see) quickly and cheaply so I don't have time to pay for shipping and sit around waiting.

I looked at the websites for places like target, gap, BR, jcrew and found nothing solid and I doubt the stores will be different.

Any cheap socks in chicago (where do the dudes selling them on the CTA get them?..sometimes they look kind of nice)

Filene's has a terrible selection. You could start there.

I should check there...though I fail to see how a terrible selection will help

Robert Talbott OTC at the Nordstrom Rack on State for $5.95. You can do no better at that price.

The street vendors get their socks at the sock store located on the northwest corner of Roosevelt and Des Plaines. They don't have any colorful otc socks. They have lots of work and sports socks at cheap prices. If you let them know you plan to sell socks on the streets, you get better prices.

At this time, Nordstrom's Rack has the best deals going .

PS. Downtown Chicago would welcome a sock vendor wearing EG shoes, Oxxford suits, Optimo fedora cocked to the side , 7 fold tie, pocket square, and last but not least purple otc socks.
