I have a pair of the LouCostellos. They are the BudAbbot model in an incredible gorilla hide(very supple and rare). Simllar to Berluti's, but much nicer and more expensive!

I'll post a picture when I can.

Something's just not right when people go about wearing on their feet the skin of our nearest relative in the animal kingdom. That's just wrong.

I take offense at that. My parents are my nearest relatives, and neither is a gorilla.

I hear David Eden is coming out with balmorals made from the skin of the Missing Link. Or is it Piltdown Man?

Seriously, I had a landlady when I was a student who had a coat made from monkey fur. It was a bit unsettling.

This made me laugh aloud:

"...Lou had a very high opinion of his shoes and didn't want any old riffraff (read piss drinking wheat-grass acolytes from Melbourne) wearing his shoes"

Monkey fur coats were very popular during the '30s, and '50s. It looks like human hair.

well, nobody answered my question, but if it is the case that these shoes are indeed made from Gorilla skin, then i think the person who owns them should be ashamed. Gorilla's are an endangered species and to have one killed just so some pretentious asshole can wear a pair of unique shoes, is downright disgusting.

Yes, I should have explained. Gorillas are currently on the endangered species list, and anyone who would wear them is an asshole. But these are special Gorilla hides. They were found in Antarctica in the1920's(many years prior to the ban), when Gorillas were not endangered. These Gorillas had emigrated from Africa in August, 1922 to Antarctica. It was a really hot summer in the Bush, and the Gorillas were looking to beat the heat by going South. Unfortunately, they were not slaughtered, but they froze to death!

When they were discovered it was decided to honor them. What better way than to use them for the ultra rare, and prestigious LouCostellos. The ultimate honor is that they are used only for the BudAbbott model. It is not well known, but in their lifetime Bud Abbot and Lou Costello were known for three things. Gambling, Whoring, and Gorilla Preservation, in that order!

This little tale has a bit of irony. Lou, and Bud and the Gorillas would be happy and proud. So as you can see, wearing the Gorilla Hide LouCstellos, is not being an asshole, but a wonderful way to honor Lou and the Gorillas!
