Can someone explain why they are "worth" $400?

555 and the denim is real nice redline cone mills stuff. I had two pair a while back and didn't pay that for both. Wish now I would have left the tags on one pair of them.

They're "worth" that much because these were earlier LVCs that used Cone Mills selvage denim. Since the iconic Cone Mills denim no longer exists, Levi's fanatics are willing to pay an arm and a smurfed leg for a pair of the almost-as-good-as the original. Also, it's in the popular 32" waist size. For $400 though, I'd wait for 10 more years, or just get a bad ass pair of SC.

DnW I agree these are really nice. Some say these and the 20s 201s 555 are the finest repros LVC made.

I sold one pair and kept a pair. Wore the ones I sold for a couple of years and got about $100 more than what I paid for them.

Slight correction; it's not the Cone Mills denim that no longer exists, it's the Valencia St. factory in San Francisco that no longer exists.

The essence is the same, though; these are not going to be made in the Valencia St. factory ever again, and there will be ever-fewer deadstock pairs of these available over time.

All that said, I got a deadstock pair off eBay not long ago for considerably less; I think the seller is asking too much.

LVC US is still using red line Cone Mills denim according to Levis anyway.

I've watched these go up in price for about the past year. I paid $140 for one pair and $160 or so for the next several years ago. I know a guy that paid $350 for a pair about 6 months ago. Wait 10 years and they could be going for allot more. That would be my guess. I wish I would have left one pair new with tags. Well maybe not these are real nice jeans and I really like wearing them.
