i need a pair of one of these shoes in black to wear with my dark jeans/shirt/blazer when out at bars or clubs. i prefer monkstraps for some reason, but i've searched this forum and see that several people mention the former two being good as well so i'll throw them in the mix. i'm looking to spend no more than ~$125-150 on this. any advice is greatly appreciated!!

Used or new? (Some people actually prefer used with jeans so they don't have to scuff them up themselves.) How do you feel about a rubber sole? (Although I don't know if you'll find monkstraps with one...) Rubber is more Street, but it also means the shoes will be disposable rather than resolable. Monkstraps don't seem to show up on eBay in great numbers but they are available on discount places like STP. Has anyone seen Cole Haan Harmon Monks in person? Kenneth Cole's kids' line also has monkstraps.

check out the choes available at Charles Tyrwhitt, www.ctshirts.com. they usually have a 50% deal going on just about all the time which would put the shoes right in your sweet spot. you'll probably have to do some searching around for the 50% link though.

Wait, what? I thought rubber soled shoes were resolable?

thanks for the tip on CT. do their shoes generally run true to size?

more specifically-i wear a 12 here in the US. on their sizing conversion chart it doesn't look like they have anything comparable to an american 12, but suggest that those wearing american 11.5's should order a british 11 and those wearing an american 12.5 should order a british 12. which should i go with?

No. Their site converts UK to US by adding half a size; it should add a whole size. Go a half size down from your US size and you should be fine.

If you're a 12 US, order a 11.5US from CT.

BUT: don't order the cheap black shoes from there, they are plasticky corrected grain leather. The black calf loafers they have might be an option, I guess. Personally, I'd advise against black shoes for wear with jeans anyway. The waxy brown chelseas they have would be a better choice IMO. I would not do suede for clubwear.
