I use my phone for this because it's one less thing to carry on the daily, then a nano for workouts only.

Perhaps, you can point what your uses/ needs are in an mp3 player.

i already have a cell phone but it isnt an mp3 player.

i pretty much would use the mp3 player everyday as i walk to and from class. i dont need for it to have all my songs as my ipod still technically works. i just need for it to be compatible with itunes.

Some of zune's products seem to garner good reviews may be worth checking out. I'm afraid the HD line may be a bit much new still, even though prices have been dropping recently.

Used market may be worth looking into because of the quick drop in value.

ya, I use my phone as well....I see yours doesn't have what it takes, but if it's reaching the end of it's lifecycle, may be worth considering upping the phone for one with decent music functions....so if you have a $300 buck phone budget and a $150 to spend on the MP3 player...just buy the $350 phone and you're still ahead, plus your pockets are one gadget smaller. I have a Nokia 5800 Xpress Music which works pretty well for me. 8 gig micro SD card holds enough to keep me happy, and syncs via Bluetooth with iTunes on my Mac via iSync with a plugin.

Get another iPod. Accessories are cheap and plenty, tons of compatibility with aftermarket devices (car stereos, docks, home stereos, etc).

+1. Not to mention ease of use.

4GB Nano with some decent $50 earphones. The stock ones are very mediocre.
