I'm looking to fill a niche for an affordable <$150 casual shoe that is classic.

I'm thinking of a wingtip. I don't want to spend Allen Edmonds money because I want to wear these more frequently and not have to baby them.

(1) Can you recommend a shoe that fits this price point?
(2) Are there any other shoes to fit this niche beyond the wingtips? That is, a casual shoe that is dressier than sneakers, boat shoes, plimsoles, looks good with jeans, and are not boots?

Thanks so much.

The short answer:

1. No
2. Not really, unless you consider chukkas not to be boots. Maybe double monks or loafers, but they're a love hate thing.

The long answer: there's not a lot of options cheaper than AE that 1) look remotely decent and 2) will last more than one season.

These are a really good option though sizes are limited:

Quality isn't bad, Made in Mexico, Goodyear welted, etc.

The other options are Longwing Veblens. Order directly from Florsheim because they have coupons all the time and you can get them for around $140.

Goodyear welted, Made in India, finishing isn't great though.

Hope that helps.

Last step, profit.

You can wear AEs everyday. They are pretty bulletproof actually. Wing tips are great with a suit or jeans too. Email the ae shoe bank in portwashington for a current list. They've got got some great deals. I've got some 10 year old aes that are still some of the best things I've ever bought
