Cheap and good tailored suit

Hi,

I'm from Singapore and I'd like to make an affordable suit (jacket/pants/shirt/maybe vest) for my upcoming wedding that can also be used for other functions/business. I'm thinking of a classic black or charcoal single breasted 2-button jacket with notched lapels, but I'm not sure of fabric, vents, and other details.

I'd like to keep it as cheap as possible as the wedding has made me pretty broke...hoping to keep it in the $500-600 range (for just the jacket/pants) but I'm not sure how realistic that is. I've been recommended Men's Tradition at Peninsula and Iris at Lucky Plaza. I've also been recommended to a factory at Lower Delta where tailors send their stuff to make, to cut out the middleman and save some money, but I'm not sure if that's advisable as I could use a little fashion advice as well, if the tailor provides that.

Any advice?

Why don't you try Anson Tailor - there are two stores - one in Republic Plaza and another in the basement of Hong Leong building. They are run by two brothers - both are knowledgeable and very helpful.

I've been going to Anson Tailor to make my work trousers and shirts for the past 13 years. In addition, they also made a tuxedo for my wedding. Depending on the wool you choose, the price would definitely be above $1,000. But I think that making a proper dark suit is a good investment - you can use it for important business meetings, presentations, etc afterwards.

+1 I just had a couple of things made-up, and (ballpark) you're looking at SGD750-900 for labour alone and >SGD1500 for a 2-piece with basic fabrics. Worth every penny IMHO...

Wouldn't you get more bang for your buck if you were to go to Malaysia to get it made (x3 currency)?
