I used to love Greysac and found it very reliable. What the hell happened to it?

I've had a number of bottles from 2005+, including some from Z's that were like $8.

None were particularly good, though. I thought it was me...

Had it on my list at first. After about two months, I took it off. Bottle variation with Greysac is enormous. And none of them were corked or anything, so I couldn't get credit. I was just sick of having to open 5 bottles for every 3 ordered. And even when it's a "good" bottle, it isn't that good, it's just inoffensive.

What year did you have, Manton? I had the '07 last week and found it very drinkable for the price. It's not great, but for $12 Bordeaux what do you expect?

I had an '06 last night. Already rotting from the inside out.

Another thing, they seem to be Napa-fying it with every subsequent vintage. I like Napa wine but that's not why buy Bordeaux.

Damn. Sorry to hear that. Maybe Kwilk is right RE: bottle variation too. I have another '07. I'll probably drink it tomorrow and report back.

it was. I said it's solid (but I don't remember if I meant it as if I thought it was solid or if it's a soild choice for a wine list), that Manton is a fran, but that I've had some really weird bottle variability from them.

Greysac used to be a light style, mild fruit, more velvet, perfume & spice that was designed for early maturation (10 years max) and that mimicked the flavors of great bordeaux at its plateau. It was a wine that showed many of the traits of perfectly rounded and aged Bord without any of the profundity. But sinice I love those particular aging traits, to me it was a go-to.

Now it is much fruitier, much "cabbier" and does not age nearly as well.

    Suckholes.

This was my experience when I bought a bottle of Greysac (2007? '08?) a few months ago--I recall based on your recommendation (thanks a lot). It was drinkable and boring.

You can now proudly join the ranks of people, both on sf and irl, that have been disappointed in my wine recommendations

FAIK, I was the original Greysac pimp on SF. I swear, it used to be good.

No problem (if it even was your rec in the first place and not manton's). Recommending wines with one testis must be tough.
