Charvet Shirts Question

Hi All,

Sorry if this has been addressed somewhere (haven't been able to find anything on the forum). Would Charvet be able to do a custom shirt based on a "sample" shirt that I'll leave with them for measurements, etc.? Unfortunately I won't be able to be in Paris to get measured and was hoping that there's an alternative method.

Any other high quality shirt makers in Paris and London that this would work as well?

Thanks!

Carl is right. The fit is what makes a shirt from Charvet worthwhile--or virtually any shirtmaker for that matter.

Why deny yourself the experience of actually visiting Charvet?

The previous posters got it pretty much spot on. Besides the brand name, fabrics, handwork, part of the price you are paying goes towards having an experienced fitter doing the measurements/fittings. IMO just wait for an opportunity to go there in person, and if you need a shirt that desperately just use whoever did the one you wanted to send to Charvet as I'm assuming you liked how that fit.

To resolve everyone's bewilderment, if OP is brand whoring it makes sense, no?

And then the leap to ANY shirtmaker in London OR Paris to copy a shirt.

More learning, less thread initiating.

I doubt they will do it but just call and ask. You can also ask Saks in NYC, which has a MTM program with Charvet and is likely to be more accomodating.

It's not MTM. More MTO. They will adjust sleeve length and hem the shirt a limited amount, but that's it.

No - not right. Don't ever say that again. Both Saks and Bergdorf do annual made to measure events with Jean Claude Colban where much, much more customization is offered than what you desrcibe above.

I just asked about this a couple of months ago at Bergdorf.

Toile fitting is nice and all but in the end I prefer the fit of their demi-mesure over the bespoke shirt that Charvet made for me....

Thanks all. Unfortunately it'll be a very very long time before I get the opportunity to visit charvet. I hear the brand whoring aspect of it but is it fair to make that assumption after the good things I hear about the quality and construction of their product? Don't we just want to get the the best product possible? I wish to be able to be there in person to get fitted but unfortunately not able to unlike you guys. Thanks for the responses!

Charvet shirts are made very well, but the real value of Charvet is in getting fitted in Paris and perusing their mind boggling collection of shirtings.

If you want to spend more than five hundred dollars a shirt, as you would to get a bespoke Charvet shirt-by-mail (assuming they'd do it for you), you'd get a better shirt by seeing a good shirtmaker you can actually get to.

I was fitted in Paris and paid around €100 more than the demi-mesure for the experience.:plain:

To their credit Charvet did recut the shirt...

If the OP has his heart set on Charvet he might try bringing his shirt to BG or Saks when Colban makes his visist (usually in April) and ask to have it measured against one of their patterns and go with the demi-mesure. Construction and fabric selection is the same as the bespoke.

Thanks All, guess the consensus is it doesn't make sense (nor will they do it) if i'm not going to be there to get measured. Guess I'll just have to wait a couple of years, might not be a bad idea for the wallet
