    2) Re: leather quality. The black shoes are generally corrected grain rubbish. Out of the offerings on the website, the two or three eyelet calfskin bluchers and the black wholecuts are the only shoes that I would consider in the black offerings.

    Ack. How were these two:

    Black Calf Leather Derby Shoes

    and

    Black Calf Leather Semi-Brogue Shoes

Derbies are nice, I wasnt that impressed with the semi-brogues. The $240 shoes are kinda junk. My shoe standards also begin with Allen Edmonds and the mid-tier Italians, so your expectations may differ.

Picked up the black derbies (I've been looking for a black semi-wholecut) and the suede Chukka boots -- a classic that I don't already own.

I like the chestnut derbies but have too many tan shoes at present.

Let's hope the sizing works out -- I translated one size down from my D with AE shoe size.

And to think I'm trying to get rid of other shoes right now ... I should *not* have read this thread....

Alirght, Im headed out... An entire size on the boots seems a bit much, maybe a half size is more appropriate. Contemplating the matter further, the standard lasts are a bit wide, so this might account for the particular discrepancy in fit that I'm experiencing. By the by, C&J benchgrades US Ds fit much trimmer than the CT/loakes...

That sounds about right (at least in some areas of the foot).

Both were from $295. They also do not look to be from the Loake 1880 line as I think some have suggested. The two hole derby looks to be the Arundel 2 from Loake's Comfort Collection. The look like the generally retail for £103.95 or $188.88.

The semi-broughes look to be Loake's Tweed 2 also from the Comfort Collection. Which can be had for £95.95 or $174.35.

Eeesshhh...so the first leason is don't by anything at CT at retail. Second leason is that at $85 a pop, this should still be a good deal.

The 158 price is inclusive of VAT, which is removed at checkout.

That site is crazy! The price keeps changing and now I'm not getting the shipping discount. Foiled again!

I bought a black pair of semi-brogues and a black pair of ankle boots. I would love to see any pictures of a pair of these shoes in the hands of forum members so I can see what they really look like in real life. Thanks for the tip!

Finally got it to work. Got a pair of these in chestnut and black, as well as a pair for my buddy (in chestnut) who has been helping me with last minute wedding details. I'm pretty pleased with 3 pairs for about 300 bucks. Might be in the mood to order some more in the morning! Thanks for the heads up, Norcal.

No, dude, the WHOLECUTS and DERBIES/2-EYELET BLUCHERS are definitely calf. The semi-brogue is made of so-so leather, and the $240 shoes are all corrected grain (black ones).
