The following is a charitable opportunity that migh appeal particularly to this group. Note, I just copied the posting from a listserve I am on:

The Peopleʼs Inaugural Project
The People's Inaugural Project is an event hosted by the Stafford Foundation to bring together people from across the country to attend the inauguration of President-Elect Barack Obama who would otherwise never have the opportunity. In working with the National Urban League, the Boys and Girls Club, the Wounded Warrior Project and other non-profit organizations, the Stafford Foundation has identified individuals from various disadvantaged communities to attend the Inaugural events: underprivileged children, terminally ill, developmentally disabled, chronically unemployed, homeless, battered women and wounded veterans.

The Peopleʼs Inaugural Project will be held January 19th and 20th in the historic JW Marriott Hotel in downtown Washington, DC. and includes a Prayer Breakfast, the Martin Luther King, Jr. Luncheon (with Martin Luther King III as the keynote speaker), the People's Inaugural Ball, and the Inaugural Youth Ball. The Stafford Foundation is providing hotel rooms for their guests free of change and collecting clothing donations for people to attend the Balls in style.

If you would like to donate a dress or tuxedo for the People's Inaugural Ball here are the details:

Deliver donations to the Northern Virginia Urban League through January 15th. They are located at 1315 Duke Street, Alexandria, VA 22314, and open 9:00 am - 5:00 pm.
If these times do not work, please call Vonda Stanford at 703-836-2858, or email her at [email protected] to make other arrangements.
There is a Youth Ball in addition to the People's Inaugural Ball so formal attire for 18 and under is also acceptable.
Anything not given to one of the attending guests is donated to charity.
For additional information please contact Lavern Chatman, CEO of Northern Virginia Urban League: [email protected]
