Charcoal gray -- this fall's color?...

Browsing through September issues of GQ, Esquire, Men's Vogue, etc. it looks like charcoal gray is the "in color" this fall. Most labels have suits, sport coats, overcoats, pea coats, etc. in one or two shades of gray. It's one of my favorite colors, and to me, a notch over navy blue for its versatility.

Any one else moving to gray this fall? What's your favorite shade of gray?

Thanks in advance,

Twotone

I have 6 suits in various shades of charcoal/gray, and that doesn't include patterns/plaids. This is a classic men's suit color, and this will remain true for some time.

Pink is the new black.

Gray is the new pink.

Thus Gray is the new black?

Actually, gray being a classic men's suit color will remain true forever.

Charcoal is my favorite shade of gray overall (and my favorite color overall).

However, there are certain things that I think gray (including or especially charcoal) look terrible for (such as anything that is made out of leather). Other things that I think gray (again, including or especially charcoal) that look terrible for are dress shirts and casual dress shirts (if it is the primary color; if dress shirt or casual dress shirt has any shade of gray, especially charcoal, as the secondary color with white and only white as the primary color, that looks good, IMO).

Gray is to menswear what black is to womenswear: the foundational color.

I'm thinking of wearing brown leather shoes this season. Everybody follow me!

Remember that the likes of GQ and Esquire magazines are FASHION magazines. They are not style magazines. That said, by necessity these throw-away wastes of paper pile must reinvent themselves every year, raison de entre type of thing.

So this season it's gray, next it's brown. Then the three button suits, then a two button center vented jackets...etc...etc...etc.

Those of us in the know

Sorry, I only wear black shoes with gray suits (especially with charcoal suits).

I think brown and beige shoes look horrendous with gray suits (again, especially with charcoal suits, DEAR GOD!!!!!!!!!!

Depends on the accessories and the dressing situation...

Chocolate or darker look better than black IMO.

And if you've chosen some warm colors for shirt and tie cognac shoes are a nice choice.

Even oxblood with pink or purple.

I'm with you on beige though...

Unless you wear charcoal in summer, and then the look is affected.

Gray, brown, black all seem to be big this season. I'm wearing some combination of the 3 almost everyday now.
