I was looking at some of these at the local Chanel store here in town and was wondering if anyone has any thoughts upon them. Such as the build quality vs. price and such. They were asking about $175 cdn and are to have some come in this week that range as high as $350. While I find the looks appealing I find the price a little steep. Any views on them?

If you enjoy paying a high premium for a (women's) brand name and the prime real estate on which most Chanel boutiques sit, buy their ties. You are not paying more for a better quality tie so unless you are in love with their designs, I would spend my $ elsewhere.

I have two - one by badged by Lagerfeld and one by Chanel. Both same construction. Overall? Pretty average quality ties. Save your money and spend elsewhere. Nice designs but (well my two are).

Chanel owns Holland & Holland too. The H&H ties are much nicer. On a side note, the Chanel top execs are usually sporting the H&H ties instead of the Chanel.

If I recall the story correctly...

Chanel sells men`s ties because she felt that the perfect tie for a man should be picked by his woman. While the woman is shopping for her clothes in the boutique, she could pick the perfect tie for him.

Not a popular thought around here

BTW - Chanel now has a men`s line too.

I've got one Chanel tie in the most gorgeous shade of orange I've ever seen. I bought it because I loved the color, not because of the construction or quality. As others have said, the quality is really nothing to write home about. I'd say that they aren't even as good as Hermes, which are generally less expensive. So, really they should probably be priced at about $75, but get marked up to $190 because Chanel has the clout to make it work.

So, if you see one you like in a stellar color or pattern (which is really where they work best; they do have some really gorgeous patterns), go for it. But, as others have mentioned, quality wise you could easily get the same for 1/3 as much.

I dated a gal whose sister managed their Chicago store and over that time I received around twenty Chanel ties as gifts. IMO, they're attractive, well made and most importantly, they tie a good knot. That said, I would never buy one myself.

Right, that answers what I needed to know. I didn't think they were made any better then others but the patterns were nice for sure. Pity that here in Calgary we are limited to the normal "high" end stuff and when something neato comes along my impulse strengthens....The local Holts use to bring in some Hermes for the Christmas season but only the Vancouver and Toronto stores do it now or so the staff tell me. I guess I can always look on Ebay for one at a discount.

Years ago I had one that was very, very nice. Today I probably would choose something different, but the ties are certainly of high quality.
