Trying to decide whether or not I can afford W.W. Chan, but they have no prices listed on their website. I realize that price can vary greatly depending on fabric and details, but can any Chan clients here give me an idea of the likely cost of a basic sport coat? Thanks.

It also depends on whether you get it on tour or at the HK shop.

I can't help you with sports jacket, but I paid about HK$9900 for a 2-piece VBC earlier this year. That was one of the more inexpensive fabrics on their list.

On tour. I have an appointment with a Chan rep in DC tomorrow that's going to be very difficult for me to keep due to scheduling constraints. If their prices are too steep for my station in life, I'd prefer to learn that now and cancel the appointment rather than have to go into the city tomorrow to get the same disappointing news.

Expect to pay $1000-1200 for a sport jacket in a good fabric.

Here are some quotes from Chan for a 2pc suit:

JJ Minnis Savile Row Collection US$1,726
Holland and Sherry Snowy River US$1,769
    Harrisons Premier Cru US$1,769
    Harrisons Frontier US$1,513
    Smith Woolens Blue Riband US$1,791

I have an appt tomorrow afternoon in DC, as well.

    As of this week:

    Lesser 13 oz - ~1860 for a 2-piece suit, ~1280 for a jacket only

    Smith's Steadfast (14-15 oz) - ~$1750 for a 2-piece suit, ~1200 for a jacket only

    Harrison's Oyster (13 oz) - ~$1550 for a 2-piece suit, ~1100 for a jacket

Harrisons/P&H/Hardy tweed lines are all in the 1100-1200 range for a jacket. Scabal 100% cotton was in the same range. Scabal cotton/cashmere is closer to 1600.

A year ago, Lesser 13 oz was $1650, so it's increased 11%, though I think the price had remained constant for a while before July 2010.

Maybe I am imagining things, but it seems to me that trousers have increased in price faster than jackets. About 30% of the suit price is for the trousers. You can save considerable money by doing local CMT for the trousers (I will be saving $300-400 on a Lesser 13 oz suit by this method).

They had the 8/9 oz tropicals, super 120s with cashmere (close to $2k for a 2-piece), 13 oz, flannels, and golden bale (~$2200 for a 2-piece IIRC).

Anybody know whether Chan does discounts if you order more than one suit? I'm doubting it, but given that so much work is in the creation of the pattern, I thought it worth asking.

Shipping aside, I didn't think this made any difference.

    I don't think it does.
