Hey guys, other forums actually directed me here, saying styleforums was the place to go for this.

My grandfather passed ~20 years ago, and was considered a somewhat wealthy guy. One of his jet black cashmere jackets left behind is really nice, and he definitely collected interesting historical things. Itt has a small rip in the outside pocket. I was thinking of getting it resized and hemming the rip, but I wanted to bring it here because I couldn't find anything on the internet with what the label says, at all.. And don't want to destroy any value it may have for my own use.
Linked is the picture:

It says "Authorized by the Austrian workers", with a logo that is a blue triangle and "A C" inside. The bottom says "UNION clothing section". Outside it says 100% cashmere, imported. Is there another label I should be looking for and missing?
Let me know if a different subforum is better for this.

don't recognize the union tag but it is very unlikely to have significant monetary value e.g. if you were to try to resell it.
if you like it, by all means have it repaired and tailored to fit you (if that's possible). The word 'resized' does concern me a bit--how far off is it from fitting you?

Absolutely right, the rip takes away any value that it might have had and you cannot 'resize' a coat merely undertake changes say to sleeve length (that can be costly if the shortening needs to be at the top of the sleeve) and little more.

If you mean shorten its length, forget it as the pockets will move into the wrong place and look stupid, anything more than that is not possible. Preserve it in a box if it has any sentimental interest to you else give it a decent 'burial' on a good fire.

The only alternatives are a theatre company might give you a couple of pennies for it as a costume or you could give it away to a tramp who might have need of something warm.

Could the rip not be resewn? it is just the pocket is slightly disattached on the front, not like a full rip through the jacket itself

Sure if a seam needs to be repaired that's an easy fix.
Take it to a reputable alterations tailor (not your dry cleaner for example) about whether they recommend tailoring it.
