Cell phone without data plan

Why is it impossible to get a well made cell phone that requires no data plan that isn't massive, and can do everything a lap top does?

I just want a ******* phone that is good for texting and has good call quality. I had this Samsung thing with the keyboard which is fine for texting but its call quality is awful. I look at Sprint's website and everything else are these huge touch screens that require you to pay for email and GPS and ******* NORAD system. I just need to text and call. I am going to hold out as long as possible on the e-mail thing because frankly I just want to be away from email sometimes.

I see no options available. Everything is either Droid or I-phone. Does no one make simple cell phones anymore?

The call quality is most likely the ****** Sprint service, not the phone. When you say "keyboard" do you mean a slide out keyboard or just something like this:

Honestly, there aren't really any good options for what you want. All the "dumb phones" suck. Your best bet is probably a Blackberry.

You should be able to always get a phone without a data plan. Just don't buy one from the carrier if they try to enforce it - take the best deal they give you for a product, sell it, use the money to buy a suitable phone. I carry a Blackberry with docs2go and I can do simple word processing, edit spreadsheets and view pdfs and powerpoint files. It also has a GPS which I pair with offline maps - works like a charm. As well, ample wifi opportunities in my city allow me to check my emails pretty frequently on the go. I don't pay a dime for any data and have a dirt cheap phone plan.

+1
just go buy a phone online or pay full price for it at the carrier (all phones are subsidized if you commit to a 2 or 3 year plan.)

Having worked for an ATT store, and currently working at a Verizon store, plus having Sprint service too - I can say there are several options out there. Stop looking online and go to a store to check some out in person. We sell several flip phones and QWERTY keyboard phones that do not require data that are more relaible than some Droids and certainly Apple garbago.

There are plenty of simple cell phones out there.

First though, we have to know what your carrier requirements are. Is staying with Sprint a requirement?
