OK goddammit - you want CBD, I got CBD! I'll wheel-out the big gun; a William Field bespoke DB, steel grey ribbed tie, and light blue medium point collar. Sorry for the blurry image - still trying to master this new digital camera of mine.

I want to hear Manton's opinion on that tie being CBD.

I would put mine up today, but I have a POW DB on and a knit tie. It may be CBD in Naples (or here in NOLA), but I doubt it will make the cut in NYC.

    Those are serious shoulders.

    I'm a serious man!

They are a little on the large side given current fashion, but Will assures me they are within the boundaries of convention. Are they out of proportion relative to the width of my head? That's the big question. They seem OK to me, but I lack the magic eye.

I want to hear Manton's opinion on that tie being CBD.

The tie isn't as shiny in real life as it appears in this pic. Still, it is a ribbed silk tie (steel grey), so it does have some sheen.

HK MBT suit, air force blue flannel

    Woolen or worsted?

Based on Manton's pics, I'm slowly warming up to the worsteds...

I'm wearing a contrast collar w/ collar pin today with my CBD look.

Gotta post up yesterday's and today's later on, just been busy.

You won't wear a square but you'll wear a collar pin?

I don't think this really meets CBD criteria given the square/socks, but it's about as close as I ever would want to get, so I'm curious how it goes down in within the strictness of this thread:

To my eyes this is CBD - I think it would happily pass muster at just about any firm in the UK.

MoK, you seem very fond of these stripes and checked shirts with a very prominent white ground. I have noted by dislike of these before. I think they throw off all your looks, at least for me. I do like the square, though. It's a lot like my favorite, or at least most-worn, silk square.

Thank you - perhaps I'm trying to play it too safe with stretching my recent fits beyond solid shirts.

I'm intrigued by this comment as I recently donated my own white grounded check shirts. What's your particular issue with them?

Thank you - perhaps I'm trying to play it too safe with stretching my recent fits beyond solid shirts. I'm not sure I quite understand why you dislike them. Is it because they are neither one thing nor the other?

I can't put it into words, I just don't like the way they look. Sometimes aesthetics defeat prose.

I want to hear Manton's opinion on that tie being CBD.
It's a classic formal tie, not quite CBD but something I might wear to work if I had a spiffy event that day.

Are they out of proportion relative to the width of my head? .
I was commenting less on the width than on the squareness and lack of slope.

I'm if the opposite view on this, as I really dig shirts with white ground. I'm wearing one today, though it might get the Manton seal of approval for its huge honkin' navy and blue stripes.

I'd go so far as to say that white shirts, and shirts with white ground, are an absolute CBD staple.

White, yes. White ground dominated stripes/checks ... well, they are CBD. But someone else in this thread said they had a JosABank look, which strikes me as on point, if not nice.

Thankfully I'm unfamiliar with JosABank [IMG]

In that case, you can call me Joe.

I wonder if opinions on this are determined partly by complexion. I am dark and look good in high contast. Maybe white's too severe for others? To me it looks clean, sharp and professional.

My love for the austere simplicity of the '60s means I'll always have a place in my heart for the white shirt and black knit tie.

P.S. This crazy-stripe H&K I'm wearing really couldn't be confused for anything I've seen at Mr. Bank's emporium.

So, I am a little lost here. A white base color shirt with blue stripes is Jos. A. Bank in appearance?

What is the alternative if you want a blue and white striped shirt? Or is this to be avoided entirely?

I ask this, because the blue and white striped shirt is my go to shirt. I have more of them than anything, and the stripes range from fine pins to butcher. Also, most of my gingham is blue and white as well. Blue is my favorite color.

I am olive skinned with black hair.

I told Will to give me his house style - which he says is the Henry Poole house style - and that's what he did. So is it that you don't like Poole-style structured shoulders, or are you suspicious about the manner in which those shoulders have been executed?
