Nah, that would ruin it.

That's sort of a throwback to a BB-esque look. You would have seen this all over NYC in the '50s & '60s. I mean not exactly that, but patch flannel + OCBD + wool tie + gunboats, sure.

Right vox?

The shirt throws it off the most because there is no way to press those seams flat. I bet if I had worn my pinpoint BD, which presses up much more crisply, everyone would be fine with it.

OK - I come to this from a different place and with a different business attire DNA and history so I'm bound to have a slightly different perspective.

On second thought, it just comes back to the shirt. I just don't get BD with tie and suits. Back to square 1

I think this is one of the things that makes this thread interesting. From my perspective it's town rather than city.

I don't like them either. I don't mind stripes, but I hate checks.

I agree with this. It's a very American look and I see it all the time. I just am not a fan of it. Even on some of Manton's old pics. I don't find it extremely egregious, just something that catches my eye in a less-than-positive way.

Never warmed to the look of a navy tie with a navy jacket. Always felt like I needed more contrast than that.

Conne, that shirt collar is terrible. Also, ditch the tie clip with a BD.

Mark: I like navy + navy. Very old world, elegant lootk.

Agree with Manton on this one. Navy suit + white shirt + navy tie = untouchable. Pretty much the height of simple elegance.

Edit: Swap out light blue shirt on occasion.
