No, I just order the shirts, if they fit, I wear them. That looks fine to me.

I never said there was a problem with the shirt, just asking.

s'funny -- what you wear on the weekend is more like what I wear to the office. Well, without the pocket square. [IMG]

Skinny, you've been knocking em' out of the park these last few fits. Hell, I hate tasseled loafers but when I see your fits, they actually work.

That's a great looking square in your last fit Manton, and those shoes.. [IMG]

    Thanks Gnatty!

As close as I got to CBD this week, just so I could post in Manton's thread:

PS might be a touch close to the shirt, otherwise this looks great.
I am a newcomer to the forum, and just in time it seems. Now that I am in law school, I am realizing how dismally inadequate my "professional" wardrobe has been (I worked in finance, but off-Wall Street, so it was a really laid-back dress code). To begin my CBD overhaul, I have been picking things up on sale at BB. Please let me know if this combination is appropriate for a legal office setting, or for interview purposes.

French blue BB slim-fit, BB 346 tie, BB 1818 Madison navy w/ burgundy pinstripes suit

Not strictly conservative, but the red stripes wouldn't raise an eyebrow in most offices over here.
Best shot I could get yesterday. Olive BB sack suit. Polo tie. Local maker shirt (lt blue herringbone).

    Looks good.

In what way? The shoes are pretty conservative. The suit is a pretty classically cut 3-piece and the stripe is hardly wild. White linen PS is perfectly conservative. I don't think the tie is an exceptionally loud paisley. I conceed the micro-check shirt is a tad on the dark shade and I realise from previous comments in this thread that contrast-collar shirts aren't commonly worn on your side of the pond, but I didn't think it was that bold compared to some of Jermyn Street's offerings.

I'm not trying to be defensive - just wondering what in an English context is so beyond the conservative?

First, the tie is not CBD by any stretch. I don't like it all, for a number of reasons, but my tastes aside, in no way is it conservative.

Neither is a contrast collar shirt. I'm not saying it's "incorrect." But it's conspicuous. All the more so because it's a check, not a stripe. I think white collars work far, far better with solids or stripes.

I don't think the suit all that conservative in cut. The four button vest looks odd. Six is standard. Five or seven are not that jarring. But four, with those big spaces in between looks odd. Then there are the hacking pockets.

All in all, you have too many loud elements in combination, including some elements that I don't think would look good even if everything else were plain.

Better shots of today's PS for Manton. From memory it's a silk/linen blend:

I've got a black on white cotton map of London in 1852 too, but I don't like it as much. I think Ordnance Survey Maps or Navigational Charts could make interesting pocket squares, but I've yet to find any.

That is really cool...would love to find one when I go to London in October.

Since we're talking pocket squares/handkerchiefs...is there a place online that has a very large selection of ps or handkerchiefs?

I have a box of seven cotton handkerchiefs that I bought at Brooks Brothers a couple months back, can these be used or would they be an abomination? Curious because I have several weddings to attend this summer.
