I could use some help with sizing. Size 50 mod 2 trousers. Should I size up or fix it with alterations?

Waist seems perfect.
Crotch area bit tight.
Thighs a bit tight.
Size up - there's plenty of fabric in the thighs to let out, but barely anything in the crotch. It's better to take in waist on a size up

Thank you for your reply. Based on the size chart online the waist should be taken in roughly 4 cm if I go for the size 52. Is that doable? Currently I can still rather comfortably fit a thumb between the waistband, so anything more would result in my trousers dropping to the floor.

Uber tight. I don’t think these trousers fit you at all. Try mod 3
Got to admit that I am slowly trying to heal from the slim fit disease, so I still need some getting used to. Would you recommend sticking with size 50 for mod 3 or go for 52 as well?

I find the mod 2 jarring personally. That fit is so slim it’s so off putting. It always gives me the vibe of the 40 year olds having identity crises that wear skinny jeans with blazers and white tennis shoes. I’m only suggesting mod 3 because you’re asking in this thread btw

Well I have the luck that I am just 28 years old, so I should be safe for a few more years. Nonetheless I appreciate your input and will definitely look into the mod 3 as well once I see a nice one passing by. For now I ordered a size 52 of the mod 2 and see how that one fits and feels.

Got my first whipcord trousers (mod 3) and the fabric is simply phenomenal - soft with a silky touch, pleasant for the skin. The taupe color is actually noticeably darker than in the pictures. Nevertheless, the craftsmanship is really good.

When it comes to fit - from waist to thighs it's very good, size 52 in my case has in this areas almost identical dimensions like my bespoke trousers. Unfortunately, my fears were confirmed after analysing the size chart earlier and the legs narrow too quickly/strongly below the thighs to the bottom, IMO. This causes the carrot effect, i.e. the loose fit in the hips and thighs does not look proportionate to such narrowed legs.

I don't have any fit pics yet, but I'm thinking whether to leave them and make them wider due to the large amount of material at the seams. After that I'll show the fit, before and after.

I find that sizing up 1 from my normal size and letting out all fabric, it becomes pretty good. But I agree that the stock fit is pretty bad. I’m sure a part of the customer base prefers to very slim fit, but Cavour should take some responsible and save us from the slim fit trousers.

Do you happen to have a fit picture after said alterations?

everywhere looks tight, especially the butt. i am someone with thunder thighs and chicken calves which means cavour trousers sadly are a terrible fit for me.
I would probably size up one more, give yourself a bit more room in the crotch and buttocks and thighs, and then alter down on the waist, rather than alter up, but that's my opinion.

Hi all, looking for Mod 3 trouser sizing advice.

I'm usually a EU 50 / US 34 (including Natalino which fits well, Spier contemporary a bit loose in their new cut).

I was initially going to go with Mod 3 EU 50 but the chart shows a 33.3 waist, and a 52 has a 34.5 waist. Should I go 50 or 52?

Thanks.

@kevinsvindland
Following up with fit pics of Mod 3 size 52 in case anyone is in a similar boat. I'm 6'1, 180, 34.5" waist.

Same mid grey flanneltrousers @te0o posted. Love the fit.

Good fit, how is the waist? Can you tighten it enough with the side adjusters or do you need to take it in?

I think side adjusters will work, unless the waistband stretches out a lot. The pattern seems to work for me in that regard, as even though the waist was a bit loose, they seemed to stay put pretty well, whereas other trousers I've had will sag easily if loose. Time will tell.

Your pics show the problem that I think the mod 3 cut has and that I described above - the balance between the hips and legs is off, especially when viewed from the side (it's not visible from the front and back). Also, the back leg would fit better if more space was added there (it's more visible on the right leg in your case).

PS. I don't want to come across as overly critical, because Cavour does a great job, but since there is this place to gather community opinions, I'm sharing my thoughts.

I don't think it's too aggressive of a taper knee down, but I think that's personal preference. The way I cuffed them can also make the side view appear more tapered. I have really skinny ankles so 8.2" leg opening is appropriate to me, consistent with my other trousers.

The right back leg was very creased as it was crumpled up on the hanger, and I think that's contributing, but I do agree a little space could help there.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
