OP is wrong. "It is what it is" is a fantastic, meaningless phrase. The perfect small-talk phrase. To be used with anyone with whom conversation is necessary but not desired.

The word "synergy" and all its derivatives should, however, be banished from language.

I believe I've read these in another post, but....

"please advise" at the end of an email

"value-added"

"make it pop", "add pop" -An entire marketing team I work with and this is the extent of their vocabulary-

"asap" -does anyone even take this seriously anymore?

"team player"

"it's not about the money"

"dude" -spoken by forty-year-old men

"s'up" -see above

"how are you?"

"mainstreet"

There was a period right during the election where this became the hot news term to describe 'home town America'. It just seemed very patronizing of rural people and implied that people who lived in metropolitan areas were less in tune with other Americans.

It's especially annoying when "Wall Street" is used in the same sentence.

I can't believe a Manhattanite wants to banish "flyover" from the lexicon.

At least saying "Yes Offense" shows you got balls.

Uhh, if anyone is still saying these things they're either grandparents still trying to be "cool" or just come out of a 10yr coma!

To add to this list, I'm tired of hearing Loan Officers (sorry, mortgage industry related) say to potential clients, the recent financial crisis was a, "Perfect Storm". Okay that phrase is worn out already time to read the WSJ & find another cool catch phrase to wow your borrowers with.

"Maverick."

The word; "Weapon of Mass Destruction", and even "WMD" pisses me off.

There are a lot of phrases and sayings I'm sick of, but the only one that really makes me want to turn violent and strangle someone is "best practices."
