Casual shirt lengths

I want to send in a shirt to mytailor to have copied for fit, however I'm not sure how to have it adjusted for length. What is the proper length for when you are wearing it out of your pants, casually, as opposed to tucked in? Is there a middle ground perhaps that would look ok out as well as be comfortable in?

Do a search for 'untucked shirt length jeans'... you'll find a few threads that have discussed this. And also the question of whether it should be done at all.
