cashmere sweaters

I recently tried on the Paul Stuart Essential Cashmere Sweaters in a Medium: V-neck, turtleneck, and vest. Unfortunately, all of them were to generous in term of size. There was far too much room left, esp around the lower half of the sweaters. I am 5'11", 170lbs, 43" chest (wear a 44L in Canali) and a 33" waist. I want to have the same quality of sweater that Paul Stuart offers, but would need something a bit more fitted. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

In terms of fit, I find JCrew to be spot on for the slim fitting variety. Cashmere ("Italian" cash made in China) is not as nice as the Paul Stuart , but if you can pick up a Jcrew $100 or less and the sweater lasts several seasons, I think it is perfectly serviceable.

Otherwise, try Howard Yount if he has any top-of-the line sweaters in size L still available.

Go for size small at Paul Stuart. We are similarly sized and they are what I buy and they are nice and trim.

You can get a knit tailor to taper in sweaters. Just make sure they fit everywhere else (shoulders, sleeves, total length, and chest area from pit to pit). Tapering in sweaters in the mid-section is a fairly basic job. I get mine done for about $14.

I will certainly give that a shot. I asked them about that and they just said that would be way too small, but the way that the shoulders are made--it could work

i suggest you to try hand knit sweaters, they are generally fitted and great. i recently bought some PRL pure cashmere sweaters and i had also one cotton cashmere hand knit sweater, i like much the hand knit, it's really good in fit, i sold pure cashmeres to invest in hand knit (wool, cotton-cashmere, cashmere etc.) for me the fit is more important than the material, as long as material is not too bad.
