Cashmere Sweaters (and other tops) for difficult frame

Greetings,

I have a slightly odd frame. I was a wrestler as a younger man and as a slightly older man (31) I have taken to being a runner. The result has been somewhat of an extreme "V" shape. Almost nothing fits me OTR and I have had nearly all of my shirts tailored to fit to my liking. In fact I have given up paying much attention to fit, primarily in the waist area, when I buy things and have been focusing instead on the quality/pattern since I know it will likely be altered. While this works fine for dress shirts and to some extent for suit jackets/blazers it does not work well for sweaters. Hence the reason for this thread...

My approximate measurements for shirts are chest (41") waist (34"). My pant waist is 31". Suit jackets that measure 18" shoulder-to-shoulder fit "well" and 17.5" fit "perfect". I have been looking at some of the Attolini and Avon Celli cashmere sweaters from Shop the Finest, but since only store credit is given upon returns I am hesitant to pull the trigger without knowing the fit. Medium seems too big and small seems too, well, small. I know sweaters can stretch or give a little bit, but it's impossible to know how much.

Any advice on sweaters of similar quality to the names mentioned above that might fit me? I'd love a nice navy or black cashmere plain or cable-knit. Also, would love to hear advice for any other OTR clothes (jackets/blazer/dress shirts) that might fit me without the need for tailoring, perhaps from someone with a similar frame.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Regards

I suppose Ralph Lauren Black Label makes slimmer sweaters but I'm not sure if they're in a style you're after (as does Black Fleece/Thom Browne; the short/slim cut works best for me considering I'm 5'7). I've never tried Attolini or Avon Celli though. I believe Cucinelli has a variety of cuts but it'd be hard to tell unless you try it.

Also, I find Polo Ralph Lauren's sweaters to be on the slimmer side too.

I'm a very similar build. Former wrestler and now more into boxing /running

I also have the same trouble as you, with the larger chest but not having broad shoulders (17.5" is perfect on me)

As for cashmere I like some of the RL stuff but the solid conservative sweaters are difficult to find on sale

I also wear Black Fleece and those fit me pretty well but again, the patterns aren't on the conservative side

As for other off the rack stuff that fits, I like Brooks Brothers Fitzgerald line, and of course suits and coats from Black Fleece

For shirts I can wear BB slim fits, but I still think they need a bit of tapering to be perfect

we have the same build - 41 to 42" chest and 34" waist, except that my shoulders are 18.75 - 19"

i don't really think it's that hard to find knits in our size. Cucinelli, Loro Piana, Borrelli, Zegna and Kiton 52" fit me great, as does RLPL L, but ymmv with the narrower shoulders. i have some very light knits (either cashmere or cash/silk) that i even buy in 50/M to achieve a more "t-shirt" like fit
