selection of fibres ,making into yarns, then fabric and manufacture into garments are done in Borgosesia and Ghemme plants
Loro Piana has its factory in Sillavengo, their mill in Piedmont

Are the factories owned by Colombo? In this case they do knit their products.

Consinee, Erdos and Gobi - most European firms deal with these conglomerates as well, whether in yarn supply or garment production… #monopolisation

I dont know prior 2019 or so, but since then they build their own. I personally build MTM mouline cable turtleneck and a bespoke overcoat in their warehouse. But their collection is far more rare because they have a lot fewer artisans and designers. Gobi i think its 100% mongolioan company with couple of stores in mid Europe

Sorry, Johnny, perhaps I'm too slow, but It's not clear to me whether Colombo has the entire producing chain in their hands. Do they knit their garments, or, as Fabricateurialist suggested, do they outsource the production to other factories (the latter case would extremely surprise and disappoint me)?

Maybe i cannot express good in English, heres production manager response
"
Lanificio Colombo is the maker of its garments. We preserve the quality of our products from the very raw material up to the Ready-to-Wear.
Our garments are made in Italy, in some cases we have to write made in Europe due to some particular components, but in any case we produce ourselves each Collection."
You dont have to trust me or some PR response, but you can go , with an appointment to their Ghemme plant where they have wear-house and also meet with their artisans and designers. They are a small company, with far less knit machines compared to JoE or LP for example

@Johnny80 do you know if Colombo would do made to order, like if I wanted to get a turtleneck in a color they don't have for that model on the website?
I really dont know if that can happen online, maybe if you pay what they ask up front. Everything ive done MTM or bespoke was in their Ghemme location in person
The think is, that you have to do everything with them, their fabric artisan must come from Colombo..at least with me even the fabric i have to chose from their own collection for my overcoat. i respect that but i think is a miss opportunity for some clientele that wants something build by them but with LP or scottish yarn for example

I can tell you for a fact that they don’t knit everything in-house because I know a factory that does some of their knits and receives the yarn directly from Colombo

Thank you both. As it seems, there isn't one truth.

interesting, maybe it’s just a certain set of knits depending on the spec that they have produced externally because that particular has very state of the art machinery some models of which there are only a handful in Italy
I find this that can be true since in their warehouse never found any of their knit cashmere shirts, or any pants and for some time they sell under their own label this in their official shops. Shirts and pants needs different skills
But i would buy shirts from a shirt maker and pants from a pants maker, i admit there are few that makes great great shirts but also jackets and pants like Cesare Attolini, but i dont think Colombo is one of them

Yes, cut and sew in general is a different operation to knitting and linking

And like you said, if they don’t do it in-house then they go to shirt makers for shirts and pant makers for pants - although I’ll say that I’ve seen also both of them being made by skilled workshops

Should you inquire with them directly, please feel free to share. I still am not able to get either of their cable knits (somewhere earlier in this thread) out of my head...

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
