Compared to what? I think it has good weight and is very warm/comfy. But it's obviously not as chunky as the shawl collar cardigans that Colhays/WL/etc. make.

Exactly, I don't know why the weight is taken as an absolute value or a decisive factor. Such a sweater is anyway intended as a layer garment, so a not excessive weight/thickness can be even advantageous.

What I just ordered from Johnstons of Elgin is a 4-ply knit, so, I think, comparable with the WL Chirnside: it's consistent and substantial, but not overly weighty.

They also have this 8-ply one in Aran pattern that is noticeably heavier.

Lately I've been slipping on this knit I copped a few years ago on sale. Love the combination of fuzzy, schlubby texture you'd get from shetland, but without the scratchiness :)

Don't know what kind of voodoo magic they used, but it is a solid workhorse that retains its shape after repeated wear and washing, and probably my most carefree jumper.

I like the feel too, but to be honest, my thickest jumpers get very little wear. It's always too warm inside to wear those, so they can only be worn as layers when going out in winter.

You're right I probably shouldn't get carried away with the thickness, luckily my budget for the Scottish brands stops at about 4 ply...

Curious, this FW24 cashmere bomber from SuitSupply says it was woven by “Colombo, Italy”. Is this suggesting the fabric comes from Lanificio Colombo? Surely it can’t be at the same level of quality for a quarter of the price, right?

Maybe its just woven by Colombo, you have to ask them
From as far as i know brands like SuitSupply Boggi etc they like to work at small scales with Colombo , Piacenza, Angelico mills etc

I thought you said they don’t offer fabric for other brands?

Colombo is closed maker. They dont offer and they dont build for others
I wanted some of their fabrics and go to Attolini for a blazer in 2019 but without any success

We love someone with contradictory claims 🤷🏻‍♂️

Yes, they dont in general since 2019 never had colombo fabrics on my table. that doesnt mean i have the absolute truth. Maybe that garmen is from fabric woven years ago with a price low enough for suitsupply profit margins
But some even found they still sell some older fabrics to third parties. We dont know much about that garment, at least i dont
