I have several nice cashmeres that are far too big. Can these be taken in by a tailor?

No, I can't imagine a tailor that does that kind of work, or have the knowledge. It's not their profession. www.knitweardoctor.com I don't know anything about them but it's definitely possible to do such alterations.

i've had the sleeves of a RLPL cashmere vneck successfully shortened in the past. What kind of alterations are we speaking about?

In principle yes. I bought last year a Four Ply Cashmere Shawl Collar Cardigan which was a bit large in the chest. As it was the last one in the shop and on sale, they altered it and I had to pay about 60 dollars. I would not trust any tailor to alter an expensive cashmere sweater though.

If there is a sewn seam already and you want to shrink it along that seam, sure. Why not

I wouldn't ask a tailor to cut cashmere if there is no seam already.
