We were in Seattle and I was disappointed to find the Cartier that had been in Pacific Place Mall in downtown Seattle, with the Tiffany's, is gone. Someone in Tiffany's told me there's now a Cartier counter or section in a prestigious department store in Bellevue (was it Neiman Marcus?). That was the first time I've heard of a Cartier leaving a downtown area with no direct replacement? Has this been happening in other cities - U.S. or otherwise?

Cartier is reducing its number of access points to make the brand more exclusive and to raise prices. Other brands like Omega are also doing this.

uhh, may because we're in a recession?

Why are you disappointed.........were you their biggest customer? How many things have you bought from there?

Cartier is in the NM at the Bravern in Bellevue.
Bravern opened with much fanfare about a year ago with a bunch of luxury stores like NM, Hermes, LV and some restaurants.
The Terrance Brennan restaurants recently closed.

Wifey and I are betting on what place is going to close next.
The John Howie Steak restaurant happy hour is great though. Nothing like deep fried bacon to get your heart started.

Recession doesn't have much to do with it. About the same time they moved to Bellevue's newest luxury mall. In this case they left a fairly thriving urban downtown which still has the Tiffany's, Gucci's, etc.
As far as how much I've bought from Cartier I've done my share but it's irrelevant. I enjoy the experience.
Incidentally, the Tiffany's no longer had any version of the Atlas watch line and I thought their current watches in the Seattle store are lacklustre.

whether you are aware or not, the recession has a lot to do with it.

Enjoy......
