That’s really interesting news about Daimler. That’s a massive signal if the company that invented the ICE is now abandoning it.

So if the last AMG engine ever is going to be the current 4.0TT, then at least they ended with the unequivocally best (IMO) engine Mercedes ever developed.

Same as running out of gas, getting towed to the nearest supercharger or destination charger. Similar to a car, empty is not really empty so there is a cushion to the battery to get you close.

The demise of Mercedes gas engines makes me think, which MB would i keep in a collection as the best example of the breed?

It would have to be something from either the 90’s era of “bank vault benzes”, or the very newest cars. Definitely no DaimlerChrysler crap. The old Benzes were the most handsome, overengineered cars and come from an era when M-B was held in the same regard as Bentley and RR. The current generation is when IMO they finally beat BMW in making great sports sedans.

So...either the W124 500E or the current E63?

With ICE car you can have the gas delivered to you by road assistance service.

Road side supercharger service. I smell profit.

How about a truck with a diesel generator-powered supercharger that will drive with you for half an hour to keep you topped up?

For me, it would either be the W116 450SEL 6.9 or the W124 500E. Even the nicest new cars out of Germany don't have the same build quality.

I looked into it and it seems like Teslas try REALLY hard to convince you not to run out of juice.

It can be done, but you will have to ignore a ton of suggestions and warnings to do it. The computer knows where most chargers are, so it will constantly try to redirect you to chargers (and ask you to lower your speed) so you don't run out.

The solution seems to be to get towed to a charger--a run of the mill 110 generator ain't gonna get you far. Seems like you might only get 3 miles per hour of charging so a tow is gonna be faster. A 240 outlet will get you about 10% of charge per hour, and a tesla wall station will speed that up a bit more.

You also need a fairly nice generator...Teslas need a clean sine wave from an inverter-type generator and if you are going 240, not all generators output the right kind of true split-phase 240.

No graph; no thumb.
