The XV/Crosstrek is just killing the base impreza in sales. They easily sell twice as many...and still more than half of all impreza-platform sales after you factor in WRX and STi sales.

Put me in the camp of people who would love to see a "WRX" or "STi" variant of the Crosstrek. But a Subaru's NA president basically said "we're already selling them as fast as we can get them...maybe we'd look into a performance variant if sales were to stop growing so fast"

Saw this at the car wash on Saturday. A BMW 3.0 CS. The car wash guy stalled the car when he tried to reverse park it to wax the car. The black cad next to it is a Maybach.

The e9 3.0CS/CSi/CSL is one of my favorite BMWs of all time! The lines on it are just perfect! Not sure I like the more modern BMW wheels on it, but its still a beautiful car.

I actually grew up around both. My uncle bought a 3.0CS when I was a kid. I remember riding around in the back seat. It was navy blue on tan. The big issue with those was they were notorious for rusting. People used to joke that they were rusting when they were new and being delivered to dealerships. Hence its a car, that the old saying rings true - buy the best you can afford (hopefully a restored one that has been rustproofed).

I like the E24, and its a beautiful car, but for it to really do something for me, it has to be the M6/M635CSi. Back in 1982, my Dad bought a new 633CSi. It was a beautiful car, even the color was interesting Opal Metallic Green (looks silver in some lighting, has a hint of green depending on lighting conditions. It was a nice car, but the AC wasn't very good, the build quality wasn't as good as MB or Porsches of the day (it was frequently going back to the dealer for QC issues), and it didn't have enough power to really make it a performance car...although at that point 182 hp was considered rather significant since a 911SC (which was lighter made about 178 hp), and a Ferrari 308GTSi/GTBi, which was struggling with the new fuel injection system and emissions issues was brought down to about 205 hp. Also, he complained that the shifter felt more notchy and less precise than the 528e of the same year (although that had a rather anemic engine at around 120 hp).

The M6 at least relieved the performance issues. However, by the time it arrived on our shores my Dad was onto Porsches.

I like the E24 and it brings back memories (I had more experiences with it than the E9), but I give an edge to the E9.

Lots of folks, including the original owner of my car, brought in Euro M635's and got them federalized. You got much prettier bumpers and a lot more color/equipment choices too.

I like the E24 and it brings back memories (I had more experiences with it than the E9), but I give an edge to the E9.

I love the E9 a lot. The E24 is a much more modern car (relatively speaking...) and higher performance, but the E9 and the BMW 507 are two of my all-time cars for looks.

Yes, bringing in gray market cars was a big thing in the 80's. There was a shop near us that did that with MBs, BMWs, Porsches and Ferraris. It was a fun place to visit a few times. I saw my first Countach in person there in 1985. With the exchange rates, people could buy a car overseas, federalize it and it was still less than buying a US spec car. That didn't really interest my Dad. Back then too many horror stories about shops that didn't know what they were doing making a mess out of cars. Usually, those issues got sorted long ago by previous owners (as these cars are well over 30 years old).

While I favor the e9 for looks, the e24 is undeniably a truly beautiful design. Its the last of the big BMW coupes that really speaks to me.

Seeing all this beautiful design language from old bmw’s just makes me more sad at what they’ve become.

Someone could probably make a killing restomodding these things. I’d never buy a new factory one.

Having owned a couple of nice e-30's I've said the same thing....but I am thinking hard about the 2 series.
