The thing that's always let Corvette down is the interior quality and quality control issues. I hope they have those under control now because the car's always had the performance.

While Corvettes have had their share of track-related issues, I've seen plenty on the track driven very fast and for the whole weekend from C5 through C7. I haven't been on the track recently to see C8s, but they're probably out there.

It never occurred to me until just now but I haven't seen many Corvettes on the track. Mustangs outnumber Corvettes by a large margin. Wonder why? I see plenty of C7's & C8's on the road.

For a while a bunch of west coast BMW CCA instructors had a Corvette of some sort. We've had students turn up in them too: when the C6 ZR1 first came out, a student drove it basically from the dealer to Laguna Seca, and then got black flagged after 1 lap because the stock exhaust was too loud. There was another student who brought a C6 Z06 to California Speedway in its roval configuration, and one of the lightweight wheels let go (some kind of crack in it). Fortunately no one was hurt. Another long-time instructor tows his track-prepared C5 to track events, and does high-speed rallies in it too. Another instructor had a C7 Z51 whose engine was so messed up, he finally got GM to buy the car back, but it was fast while it ran.

None of this makes the car any less ugly.

And let's first determine if the car is even capable of doing a full lap of a track without overheating before we start with these bold claims. There's a reason why there aren't too many Corvettes at your run-of-the-mill track days.

Wasn't this the issue with the C8 early on? Every test car seemed to catch on fire.

The Z06 will compete with or outperform Ferraris, Lambos, Porsche for 20-40% of the price. That alone is an accomplishment. It’s the most powerful NA V8 in a production car too. People are going to hate on it because they overpaid for other track cars. It shakes up the track and exotics market to some degree (except for badge whores)

The X drive M3 is putting up ridiculous performance stats right now. If it is engaging and they make an aftermarket front fascia, I’d consider it.

You’re not looking at the body when you’re driving it.

The C8 is ugly. As for ownership and driving it, I was talking to an acquaintance who is in the auto industry and has a C8. He said its fine for a quick blasts. He figures he'll keep it less than a year. He's been offered $20K over what he paid for it. He said its not all that engaging to drive, and its nothing special. He said, he'd never sell his 930 Turbo regardless of values. He said the Vette for the right amount is gone tomorrow.

Man, I’d love to get a little sports car, but don’t have any real need for it. We have a 2004 Acura RSX that we bought for our au pair to drive. She’s not here any longer, but I like driving that thing around. It feels snappier than the V6 Highlander.

Keep that car and look after it, you have one of the best handling front wheel drive cars ever built, ever!!!!!
